Reforestation Critical for Gorilla Habitat

In the past 30 years over 200,000 square kilometers of Great Ape Habitat has been lost in Central Africa. The devastation continues as the population grows and the need for fuel and lumber exacerbates the problem. This affects the apes directly and contributes to the loss of CO2 sequestration globally. Combining this with the effects of wood burning cook stoves contributes significantly to our overall climate crises. The good news is that projects like the Trillion Tree initiative have the possibility to reverse this trend and get us on the way to slowing down the global temperature increases. The villagers are more than happy to engage in Reforestation but they need help from outside agencies to organize the large scale nurseries and planting methods to make a difference. In the photo the students around Nkuringo are actively trying to make a difference but they need our help. A major focus of GorillaHabitat.com will be cresting project teams that can access the funding sources available and put in place implementation plans to really make a difference.
