SOLAR POWER

As in many BOP communities the area around the Gorilla Habitat has a complete lack of accessible electricity. Some high end tourist lodges are now connected to the national grid but it is prohibitively expensive for the villages. Fortunately the cost of solar panels and batteries have dropped to a point where with creative financing schemes they can be installed either individually or in the form of Micro Grids. By clicking on the links you can see the large number of companies that are offering these products. By combining support from individuals, other funding sources and using Certified Emission Reduction credits these products can be provided to the villages. The potential benefits in terms of decreasing deforestation, providing lights and tablet and phone charging to help in education, water purification, electrically powered utility carts, food preservation and Internet connectivity are massive.
