Wood Cook Stoves are a Major Health hazard!
Everyday over 2 Billion people globally are cooking on wood fires. This leads to massive deforestation and leads to the premature deaths of primarily children due to respiratory problems. In order to keep the fires burning women and children spend up to 4 hours each day collecting firewood and carrying it back to the villages on their heads. This severely affects their ability to attend school and leads to a very high drop out rate. Solutions are available in the form of green charcoal for fuel, new improved cook stoves and solar cooking but there is no concerted plan for acquiring the funding and systems for implementation. One of the focuses of Gorilla Habitat is raising awareness to these problems and facilitating plans for implementing solutions.
