How do we protect the Mountain Gorillas and their Habitat?

Our mission is to provide a source for information on the Mountain Gorilla habitat and highlight eco-friendly tour companies offering tours that not only highlight the Gorillas and Chimpanzees but allow interaction with the natives. We also hope to connect investors, industries and NGOs with products and companies that are trying to help the natives and villages cope with the problems of clean water, clean cook-stoves, reforestation and education. Making progress in these areas will decrease tensions in the gorilla habitat and surrounding area. Please visit the web site www.gorillahabitat.com for continuous updates and connect with us on Instagram and Facebook to contribute to the dialogue.

Offsetting the great news that the Mountain Gorilla population has increased from 800 to 1000 in the past two years are the murders of rangers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, kidnapping in Western Uganda and a standoff between Uganda and Rwanda troops along their common border. The continued flow of tourists to see the Mountain Gorillas is critical to the economy of these three countries and the survival of their habitat. It is also critical to the survival of the Batwa Pygmies whose population is declining dramatically after their eviction from the habitat in 1996. To make people aware of the situation and hopefully stimulate specific actions to protect the habitat the website www.gorillahabitat.com has been established.
